The European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases™, in short ECCMID, is organizing their 30th gathering on 18-21 April 2020 in Paris, France.
ECCMID takes place annually and is recognized by academia, the clinical setting and industry as the largest European congress for the presentation and discussion of research in the fields of clinical microbiology and infection.
Initially a biannual congress, ECCMID became an annual event after taking place in Berlin in 1999. The venues have been systematically selected to ensure that the congress is easily accessible for all participants from different areas of Europe on a rotating basis.
Since its initiation back in 1983, ECCMID has grown in size and now attracts around 10,000 participants every year. The number of submitted abstracts has risen to over 3,000 of which 65% are accepted for oral or poster presentation.
Venue of this year´s congress is Paris, the capital of France and the world-famous “City of Light”. Paris has so many sights to visit as hardly any other metropolis. Typical tourist attractions are the Basilica Sacré Coeur, the Arc de Triomphe or the Panthéon – and, of course, the Eiffel Tower.
The French capital also offers a high-profile cultural landscape: around 200 art galleries, 100 theatres, about 160 museums and more than 10,000 restaurants ensure a high level of enjoyment in Paris.
The beloved Parisian landmark, the Eiffel Tower, consists of 3 floors. The first floor features a multimedia show and an exhibition surrounding the history of the Eiffel Tower, as well as a sky walk, a few souvenir shops and a restaurant. On the second floor there is a second restaurant and other souvenir shops. At the top of the top you can enjoy the view over Paris and take a look into the room of the architect Gustave Eiffel.
The Roman-Catholic pilgrimage church on Montmartre, the Sacré-Coer, is another must-see when visiting Paris.
Between the Place de la Concorde and the Place Etoile with the Arc de Triomphe is probably the most famous boulevard of Paris: more than 70 meters wide, an impressive monument at each end, along the Avenue des Champs Elysées pure luxury and a true shopping paradise.
