The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress 2019 will take place in Barcelona, Spain, from 27 September – 1 October 2019.
The ESMO Congress, once again in partnership with the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR), brings together clinicians, researchers, patient advocates, journalists and the pharmaceutical industry from all over the world to learn about the latest advances in oncology and translate science into better cancer patient care.
As this Congress is the most influential annual meeting for oncology professionals in Europe, the participants will get an impression of latest translational researches, presentation of practice-changing data and multidisciplinary discussions.
This exciting partnership creates a unique cancer congress in Europe with huge scientific reach and the true potential to improve the lives of cancer patients.
2019’s venue, Barcelona, is the capital of Catalonia and after Madrid the second most populated city of Spain.
The cosmopolitan city lies on the Mediterranean coast, about 120 kilometers south of the Pyrenees and the French border. You can still find roman remains, medieval districts and beautiful examples of modernism and avant-garde movements of the 20th century for example the emblematic buildings designed by the Catalan architects Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Doménech i Montaner declared as UNESCO World Heritage site.
For lovers of contemporary art, the Macba, Barcelona’s contemporary art museum, is certainly a must-see. This very modern structure is surrounded by narrow streets and old buildings, in the middle of El Raval – one of the most famous districts of the city because of the cultural diversity.
Participants might, at some point, want to take a break in one of the largest parks in Barcelona, the El Parque de la Ciutadela. It is distinguished by its large green areas, a lake, a waterfall, exotic plants and even a zoo.
The wide cultural offer includes museums, exhibitions and sculptures in the open air as well as a diverse music, theater and dance program.
An innovative and imaginative gastronomy, based on local vegetables, fresh fish, sausage products and olive oil, has also been created from tradition and modernity. Traditional confectionery and sparkling wines complete a slight approach to the gastronomic culture of Barcelona.
