The 26th United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW) will take place from 20-24 October 2018 in Vienna, Austria. UEG Week is a place to be for clinicians and researchers. The scientific program includes all aspects of their specialty, ranging from basic science to clinical practice guidelines. For UEG Week in Vienna, a world class faculty will gather to present newest research as well as state-of-the-art clinical practice. The UEG has more than 22,000 members, all of them specialists on their field, working across medicine, surgery, paediatrics, GI oncology and endoscopy.
2018’s destination, Vienna, is the capital of Austria and if you are looking for a place to visit in the cultural city of Vienna, you will surely find something. The palaces Schönbrunn and Belvedere, the Vienna Danube Tower, the modern museum Albertina, the Prater with the famous Ferris wheel, the Spanish Riding School, St. Stephan’s Cathedral, the Vienna State Opera House, the Hofburg, the Karlsplatz and its imposing baroque church, the Kunsthalle Wien with a broad diversity of international contemporary art are just some of the numerous highlights to visit and see in Vienna.
Even the venue 2018 – the Austria Center Vienna – is special. Surrounded by contemporary architecture, just 7 minutes from the city center and a few minutes’ walk from the Danube, Austria’s largest conference center has a total capacity for 20,000 delegates and offers 24 lecture rooms for between 100 and 4,320 participants, 180 meeting rooms and 22,000 m² of exhibition space. The wide range of halls, rooms and outdoor spaces at the Austria Center Vienna is unrivalled in Europe.
Not so many people may know why about fifty traffic lights in Vienna’s pedestrian areas these days show those charming little couples (homosexual as well as heterosexual). That was a decision made welcoming the European Song Contest in 2015. Another thing, very typical for Vienna, but with much more history, are the houses with the public thoroughfares, a local architectural specialty. These houses were situated between two parallel roads and could be entered from both sides. Often enough they had small courtyards, sometimes even several of them with shops and restaurants as a “passage”. Until today these passages can be used to walk from one road to another and save a lot of walking time. If you attentively stroll through the city center, you will find quite a lot of very attractive examples.
