Not only has some time passed since our last blog post! A lot has happened in the meantime. Sustainability is <\/span>becoming more and more important<\/span>,<\/span> and more and more companies have to report what they are doing to achieve <\/span>it. Sustainability is demanded by custo<\/span>mers, employees, investor<\/span>s<\/span>,<\/span> and an attentive public. We have to act <\/span>sustainably. In business and of course also<\/span> in the<\/span> event<\/span> industry<\/span>.<\/span> Over and beyond<\/span>, sustainable events<\/span> trigger a <\/span>desire for sustainable behavior and action among the participants.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row equal_height=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1591794311845{margin-top: 3vmax !important;margin-bottom: 3vmax !important;}”][vc_column width=”1\/2″ el_class=”v-center”][vc_single_image image=”8461″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″ el_class=”v-center”][vc_column_text el_class=”w-mid”]I<\/span>n this context, we would like to present the<\/span><\/span> Sustainable Meetings Berlin<\/a> initiative in more <\/span>detail, because it is the strong partner at our <\/span>side<\/span> when<\/span> it<\/span> comes<\/span> to<\/span> sustainability.<\/span> Berlin <\/span>should<\/span> become<\/span> one<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> most<\/span> sustainable <\/span>event locations in the world,<\/span> that is the goal. <\/span>Sustainable<\/span> Meetings<\/span> Berlin<\/span> (SMB)<\/span> is<\/span> a <\/span>management<\/span> and<\/span> certification<\/span> system<\/span> that <\/span>serves as a roadmap for partners on the way to <\/span>sustainable<\/span> business.<\/span> This<\/span> includes<\/span> an<\/span> online <\/span>platform<\/span> on<\/span> which<\/span> event<\/span> planners<\/span> can<\/span> find <\/span>verified<\/span> sustainable<\/span> s<\/span>ervice<\/span> providers,<\/span> the<\/span><\/span> Sustainable Partner<\/a>. But SMB is also a network <\/span>of<\/span> committed<\/span> and<\/span> future<\/span>–<\/span>oriented<\/span> Berlin <\/span>companies.<\/span><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row equal_height=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1591794311845{margin-top: 3vmax !important;margin-bottom: 3vmax !important;}”][vc_column width=”1\/2″ el_class=”v-center”][vc_column_text el_class=”w-mid”]Berlin<\/span> is<\/span> a<\/span> member<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span><\/span> Global Destination Sustainability Movement<\/a> and<\/span> thus<\/span> part<\/span> of<\/span> the <\/span>worldwide sustainability movement in the tourism and <\/span>congress<\/span> industry.<\/span> The<\/span> German<\/span> capital<\/span> is<\/span> the<\/span> first <\/span>German<\/span> region<\/span> with<\/span> an<\/span> international<\/span>ly<\/span> recognized <\/span>catalog of sustainability criteria for the visitor economy: <\/span>The<\/span><\/span> Global Sustainable Tourism Council<\/a> has<\/span> recognized <\/span>Berlin’s sustainability criteria<\/span> programs for the tourism <\/span>and events industry as equiv<\/span>alent to the GSTC<\/span>–<\/span>Sector <\/span>criteria<\/span> for<\/span> hotels<\/span> and<\/span> tour<\/span> operators<\/span>.<\/span> This<\/span> is<\/span> a <\/span>confirmation of<\/span> Berlin<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s<\/span> sustainability initiative<\/span>, which <\/span>started in 2018 with Sustainable Meetings Berlin and w<\/span>as <\/span>expanded to include Sustainable Tourism Berlin at<\/span> the <\/span>end of 2022.<\/span><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″ el_class=”v-center”][vc_single_image image=”8474″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row equal_height=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1591794311845{margin-top: 3vmax !important;margin-bottom: 3vmax !important;}”][vc_column width=”1\/2″ el_class=”v-center”][vc_single_image image=”8463″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″ el_class=”v-center”][vc_column_text el_class=”w-mid”]In order to organize events sustainably, economically, <\/span>socially<\/span>,<\/span> and ecologically sustainable aspects must be <\/span>considered. This requires a rethinking of all relevant <\/span>actors<\/span> –<\/span> from<\/span> employees<\/span> to<\/span> suppliers<\/span> and<\/span> service <\/span>providers<\/span> to<\/span> the<\/span> participan<\/span>ts.<\/span> The<\/span> aim<\/span> must<\/span> be<\/span> to <\/span>organize economically successful events with ethical <\/span>and fair trading with the least possible impact on the <\/span>environment.<\/span> Sustainability<\/span> is<\/span> much<\/span> more<\/span> than<\/span> a <\/span>charitable<\/span> idea<\/span> of<\/span> some<\/span> “world<\/span> saviors”<\/span> because <\/span>sustainability is firmly anch<\/span>ored in law.
