Overview of the event
The 48th ESPEN Congress 2026 will be held in Berlin, Germany, and the local organisers warmly welcome healthcare professionals and researchers from around the world to this leading global event in clinical nutrition and metabolism. Under the theme “Nutrition is the Mission,” the Congress highlights the critical role of optimal nutrition in preventing disease, improving outcomes for patients with acute and chronic conditions, and supporting planetary health through sustainable food systems. The welcome message emphasises collaboration and teamwork across disciplines — including physicians, dietitians, nutritionists, nurses, pharmacists, and scientists — and reflects this spirit in the scientific and educational programme developed by both local and central ESPEN committees. ESPEN 2026 promises an engaging and diverse programme, bringing together thousands of professionals from over 100 countries to explore cutting‑edge science, share best practices, advance education, and strengthen international collaboration within the clinical nutrition community.

Information about the city of Berlin
The ESPEN 2026 Congress will take place in Berlin, the largest city in Germany and one of its 16 states. After World War II, the city was divided. East Berlin became the capital of East Germany, while West Berlin was a West German exclave, surrounded by the Berlin Wall (1961–1989). Following German reunification in 1990, Berlin became the capital of all Germany again.
Since then, Berlin has grown into a popular tourist destination. Its creative energy is visible on every street. Visitors should see the Brandenburg Gate at Pariser Platz and the Reichstag next to Republic Square. From the Brandenburg Gate, you can look west toward the Siegessäule or east along the magnificent boulevard “Unter den Linden.” Berlin also offers a wide variety of food. You can find restaurants from all over the world. Many of them are unique. The city is truly multicultural.
