ECCO

Overview of the event
The European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO) was founded in 2001 with the goal of improving care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) across Europe. Today, it has grown into the world’s largest forum dedicated to specialists in IBD. As a non-profit association, ECCO has expanded significantly over the years. What began as an organization with 14 member countries has developed into a strong network representing 36 member states of the Council of Europe, while also fostering collaborations beyond Europe.
The scientific program is structured around basic science, conventional medical research, and clinical sessions, led by some of the world’s leading experts. Highlights of the program include presentations of top-ranked abstracts, the announcement of ECCO scholarships and grants, and summaries of the latest ECCO guidelines.

Information about the city of Copenhagen
Congress venue is the Bella Center in Copenhagen, capital city of Denmark, and the biggest exhibition and congress center in Scandinavia. It is located in Ørestad district between the city center and the airport. Since the turn of the 21st century, the former Viking village Copenhagen has seen strong urban and cultural development, facilitated by investment in its institutions and infrastructure. The city is the cultural, economic and governmental center of Denmark. It is also one of the major financial centers of Northern Europe with the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. Copenhagen’s economy has seen rapid developments in the service sector, especially through initiatives in information technology, pharmaceuticals and clean technology.
As of 2014, Copenhagen has 15 Michelin-starred restaurants, the most of any Scandinavian city. The city is increasingly recognized internationally as a gourmet destination. Apart from the selection of upmarket restaurants, Copenhagen offers a great variety of Danish, ethnic and experimental restaurants. It is possible to find modest eateries serving open sandwiches, known as Smørrebrød – a traditional, Danish lunch dish. Copenhagen has one of the highest numbers of restaurants and bars per capital in the world. The nightclubs and bars stay open until 5 or 6 in the morning, some even longer. Denmark has a very liberal alcohol culture and a strong tradition for beer breweries.
