Information about the city of Berlin
The ESPID 2027 will take place in Berlin, the capital of Germany. Berlin is an independent federal state and sits completely within the state of Brandenburg. The city has two main centres and several additional hubs, a structure that existed long before Berlin’s division. City West includes the area around the Zoological Garden, Kurfürstendamm and Tauentzienstrasse. The historical centre, known as Mitte, forms another important focal point. Meanwhile, Alexanderplatz served as the centre of former East Berlin. Today, it functions as a major transport hub with regional trains, suburban trains, the subway and the tram. The square also features a department store, an electronics market, a shopping mall and a hotel.
Berlin’s nightlife spreads across many districts. For example, visitors enjoy the bars and clubs in Oranienstraße, Friedrichstraße, Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg and the side streets of the Kurfürstendamm. The city also offers many lakes and waterways. In addition, several boat lines and tours allow visitors to explore Berlin from the water. Popular routes lead from Wannsee to Tegeler See or Müggelsee, offering scenic views and a relaxing break from the urban pace.
