Zyankali Bar Berlin

Tresen der Zyankali-Bar

“Chemical Entertainment in Bergmannkiez”

The Weekend needs a bar night

I like bars. My weekend officially does not start until I am surrounded by dimmed light, with people I like, sitting in front of a nicely decorated glass and exchanging with the appropriate background music over the past week. This weekend, my decorated glass was for the first time in the Zyankali bar in Kreuzberg.

Taken a Wrong Turn into the Swingerclub

In fact, my first thought at the first moment, when I went to the front door, was that I would have gone wrong and would be in front of a swinging club. Diffuse, red light, warning yellow paint with decoratively adorned tape and hard-to-see windows.

After entering the bar, I had to revise this impression. I felt more like being in a very special hospital. The walls are also painted yellow inside, a laughing group sat on a leather covered hospital bed, and above the bar glowing Erlenmeyer flasks and other vessels were connected by tubing.

After I and my companions had made ourselves comfortable on one of the beds, we dealt with the map. What lasted longer than planned, because as unusual as the location is, are the drinks. In addition to specially brewed beer or various cocktails with partly home-made Absinthe and other drinks with names such as “Pharmacy” or “Ice cold hand”, you will also find for eight euros a so-called “relaxation aid”, which includes 15 minutes of oxygen supply via respiratory mask.

Sipping on Cocktails sitting on a Hospital Bed

So I sat, sipping a cocktail called “Eyesbreaker”, on a hospital bed facing a showcase with something in it that looked like skull bones of smaller animals.
After a little while I noticed a staircase to the ground floor. Going down, you land in the stale atmosphere of a chemistry laboratory. Decorated with glowing reagent glasses and red light, the impression is even more intense than in the upper floor.

Absinthe Tastings at Zyankali Bar

When I was in the Zyankali bar, it was still quite fresh outside. For the warmer months the bar also has a beer garden.
Anyone who has been infected by the bar with the Absinthe passion can participate in regular tastings and aroma educations.

Special but a cool variation

  • In summary, I really enjoyed the bar,
  • but is also very special.
  • I do not have to start
  • every weekend here,
  • but for now and then it is a really cool change.

I mean, who did not want to toast in all the chemistry lessons
at school with test tubes and Erlenmeyer flasks?
In this sense: Cheers!
