…because events are platforms for change.

The issue of poverty doesn’t just begin with major political decisions – it also manifests itself in structural disadvantage, unequal opportunities, and a lack of access to economic participation. The first goal of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 – “No Poverty” – calls for an end to poverty in all its forms. The vision behind it is to create a world in which all people, regardless of gender, origin, or social status, have equal opportunities. We bear particular responsibility in the event management industry, where encounters and experiences are created.

Poverty is not only addressed in political decision-making but also manifests itself in everyday life when it comes to the visibility of disadvantaged people and access to education and social participation. Events can therefore be much more than just fond memories; they create spaces where everyone, regardless of social or economic circumstances, is welcome and feels seen. This begins with the planning of low-threshold access options and the integration of program items relevant to different target groups – always coordinated with the client’s wishes, of course.

One step toward combating poverty is strengthening local markets. By working with local partners … whether catering, technology, or equipment …one can consciously focus on regional businesses and suppliers. This promotes local economic participation and supports sustainable growth in the area surrounding the event location.

Fair working conditions along the entire value chain, as well as compliance with basic minimum standards for safe working conditions and transparent contracts, are a matter of course. Sustainable economic growth in our industry therefore means not only working for large corporations, but also implementing projects for NGOs, educational institutions, or non-profit initiatives, creating economically viable models that benefit all parties.

According to the United Nations, around one in ten people worldwide still lives in extreme poverty – including 380 million women (as of 2022). Only a third of all countries are currently on track to achieve the 2030 poverty reduction target. But we firmly believe that every decision counts, and we can do a lot, especially in the events industry. From team building to venue selection – we can break down barriers and promote equal opportunities.
