~ and sustainable partners are important!
Sustainability in the event industry is a broad field. Where is the best place to start, especially as an event agency? How do we choose our partners? In our last blog post we reported on our colleague Mareike’s appearance as an expert on sustainable events in a tabloid magazine. The question rightly arose how we implement sustainability ourselves, how we choose our logistics & entertainment partners
At MR Congress, we are guided by the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations when it comes to sustainability. The UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) form the guideline for a future without poverty and hunger, in which all people have access to medical care and in which the environment and the climate are protected. They form the framework for our interpretation of sustainability and are the basis for how we classify our partners for events and evaluate their sustainable approach. This way we can catalog our partners according to who covers which goals and in which area the sustainable approach is available.
This is important in order to be able to suggest competent and verifiably sustainable partners for events to our customers. As an agency and partner of the Berlin Convention Office within the framework of Sustainable Meetings Berlin, we are responsible for ensuring transparency and counteracting to so-called greenwashing. As a result of opaque working methods and supply chains, a justified distrust of sustainable offers has grown in the meantime. Sustainability is used again and again as a sales argument without really making a commitment.
Therefore, we are in constant contact with our partners and service providers (hotels, restaurants, locations, and logistics companies) and advise our customers openly and on an equal footing. In this close exchange with our partners, we can observe a change within the industry that cannot be dismissed out of hand. Sustainability is moving more and more into focus in all areas and there are tons of new, environmentally conscious event concepts, despite or maybe because of the cuts caused by the corona pandemic.
